Compost Made From Your Food Scraps

Compost is made from your food scraps in Camp Washington by The Common Orchard Project, one of our partner farms.

The quality of the compost was excellent. My tomatoes, peppers, and herbs loved it and grew so much better than last year. We've been loving the bountiful harvest!

Interested in ordering more compost? Compost is available for purchase by the public in bags or in bulk through the Common Orchard Project’s website.

Giveback Periods

Households using our drop-off program have the option to receive their free bag of finished compost either in the spring or the fall, during designated giveback periods.

Notification on when the compost giveback period opens will be announced via:

  • Your drop-off site page on MakeSoil
  • Our quarterly newsletter (sign up below)
  • Instagram and Facebook

This notice will provide details on where and when to pick up your compost. We typically work with a local nursery or plant store, who helps distribute the compost bags to households.

Our spring giveback usually happens in April-May. Keep an eye out starting in March for notification.

Our fall giveback usually happens in October-November. Keep an eye out starting in September for notification.
